I created stressedout.org as a resource for innovated methods of transforming our stress. We live in a time when all of our resources are being strained and yet we are expected to increase our productivity. As we all know too well, technology did not free us from our stress; it may have trapped us deeper.
Working harder to remove stress will not work; we need to find a smarter way to change our stress. Many of the traditional stress reduction techniques will not give us what we want. Going home, having a beer as we watch TV is not removing stress from our bodies.
Fortunately, there are ways to not just reduces stress, but to remove it from our bodies and lives. Some of these methods come from ancient practices, while others are developed from current research.
There is no drug that removes stress from our body. Yet, we can teach our minds and bodies to release the stress and not recreate it. As I use to say in our Mindfulness Stress Reduction course, we learned to be stressed, we can learn to be relaxed. In essence, it is that simple, our stress response is a learned response.
I am not interested in mitigating the effects of stress. I want to investigate how we can truly improve the quality of our lives using practical and simple methods.
